I think this is the longest I've gone without sleeping.
[She holds a hand to her forehead, but she sounds awake and alert. A small origami book is on the desk in front of her. Covering her floor are several hundred origami paper cranes.]
I don't like this event so much. [She finishes the final fold on a crane, puts it aside, and smiles furtively.] Five hundred and seventeen.
[Locked to Lucifer||Hackable]
I almost forgot to lock this. Hardly any of my friends know you're here... I'll be up on the roof until dawn. [She quickly adds the next part.] If you want to help me practice.

Where would you like to start?

on 2010-09-08 05:11 am (UTC)I don't regret meeting you, if that's what you meant before.
[She stands as well, wondering if the roof of the Mansion had been the best choice of venue.]

on 2010-09-08 06:27 pm (UTC)You'll do just fine. Uncertainty, I suspect, is part and parcel to the whole affair. And the first time is always a wash. But in the end, you'll do rather well.

on 2010-09-09 05:21 am (UTC)[After several moments of concentration, green, red, and orange leaves start sprouting from the tree, until the whole thing is an explosion of color. The mass of foliage grows until it is slight larger than any of its neighbors.]
[But then it shrinks again back to a barren husk. Elaine grits her teeth, her voice tense.] Something's resisting.

on 2010-09-09 11:15 am (UTC)Your uncertainties? Or this place? One can be overcome. One may require a bit more effort. [His eyes turn toward the tree.] Yet you did affect it. That means it can be done. You have seen proof of it. You know. Try again. See what happens.
Like muscle, it will only come easier with use.
[Action] LJ sent me no notice :(
on 2010-09-09 11:37 am (UTC)[The tree opens up slowly, like a flower blooming, eventually settling on a few sparse growths of leaves here and there.] Something's still resisting. [She puts a hand to her head, massaging her temple.] I don't think it's me. But I went for a bit of permanence this time. [The tree definitely has a sad number of leaves, but at least they're not shrinking away.]
[Action] It's not sending me stuff right either
on 2010-09-11 12:59 pm (UTC)Learning to wield the power is substantially more instinctive when there is a vacuum waiting to be filled. Within the parameters of a fully defined universe, there will often be resistance. Especially if the universe in question is not yours.
It is a good start.
