Character Name: Elaine Belloc
Series: Lucifer
Timeline: Middle of issue 57 (Crux part 2 of 2)

Character Background: Elaine Belloc is perceived as a normal twelve year old girl who lives in London, daughter of Matthew and Elaine Belloc. (Not a typo. She's named after her mother.)

She does, however, possess many supernatural powers. She keeps these a secret, and does her best to keep them out of her life, wanting instead to seem normal. In her own words, she'd rather not know what makes her special.

Mona, her best friend, returns in the spirit form after supposedly having committed suicide. She tells Elaine that she was murdered, and Elaine consequently uses her powers to pursue vengeance. While hunting down Mona's killer, she crosses paths with Lucifer. He aids her in killing the murderer as well as discovering the truth behind Mona's murder. In exchange, he promises that she will be very useful to him later on.

Later on in the series, a man named Easterman claims to be Elaine's father. Elaine's curiosity is piqued, and eventually she and Easterman find themselves pursuing the truth in an abandoned building. There they meet a fallen angel named Sandalphon, who sends Mona's spirit into the afterlife, greatly angering Elaine. Sandalphon shows Elaine and Easterman the archangel Michael, who he has captured.

Sandalphon's plan is to breed angelic stock in order to invade heaven. Since all angels are sterile by nature, Sandalphon used the demiurgic power (power of God) stored within Michael, in order to quicken human wombs. Elaine was the best of his creations, with 300 viable ovaries that Sandalphon planned to harvest and fertilize.

In other words, Elaine is actually half-angel, daughter of Easterman's wife and Michael, and her purpose is to make angelic children.

When Easterman learns this, he attempts to protect Elaine, but is killed by Sandalphon. Elaine is eventually rescued by Lucifer, who destroys all of Sandalphon's work. Lucifer also rescues Michael, and the three of them travel to a portal Lucifer created.

While Lucfier takes care of some business, Michael, now fully healed, offers to take Elaine home. Elaine declines, saying she'd rather wait for Lucifer, who has saved her twice and is the only grown-up she knows who keeps his pormises.

Later in the series, the tension in the Belloc family is rising. Elaine is consantly angry at her foster parents, and is increasingly disturbed concerning angels and God. She runs away from home, and while attempting to find Mona's spirit, discoveres that she has the power to spirit-walk, leaving her mortal body behind.

After travelling through several places, she reaches hell, where she discoveres she has wings. As she is flying around, she is shot down and imprisoned. She begs the demons to release her, saying she is a friend of Lucifer. The angel of silence, Duma, comes and rescues her. Duma returns her to her body, and tells her that she will meet Moan again when the time is right.

Tensions in the Belloc family rise even more when Elaine returns. In order to escape her father's anger, she joins a study-group at a friend's house. On the way there, she is confronted by Gaudium, a demon, who claims that she is in danger. She doesn't believe him, because her time in hell has made her distrust demons.
Later, at her friend's house, she and her friends are attacked by a demon who disguises herself as Elaine's father. Gaudium rescues her by driving a truck into the demon. Elaine desperately wants to return back to the house and check if her friends are alright, but Gaudium convinces her that there's no point, and they flee into the subway.

The demon confronts them again in the subway. It makes the tunnel collapse on Elaine. Although Elaine's mortal body is ravaged, her spirits lives on. She spirit-walks, along with Gaudium, to the universe that Lucifer created.

There she sees Lucifer struck down by the Basanos. Worried, she flies up to help him, despite the danger and Gaudium's protests, although she is unable to catch him in time.

For the next few days, she and Gaudium look for Lucifer's body. She finds it deep within a mountain, being guarded by an angel named Meleos. Meleos offers her the option to save Lucifer, and she takes it immediately.

Her spirit enters Lucifer's body, where she finds his spirit talking to Death. Elaine grasps Lucifer's hand, which revives him. She stays behind to talk to Death. They talk about Mona, who evaded Death for a while. Elaine asks if she can see Mona, and Death says yes. Elaine is overjoyed until she realizes that it means she has died as well, having given what little was left of her life to revive Lucifer.

Instead of going to heaven or hell, Elaine's spirit ends up in the Mansions of Silence, another place where departed souls go. There her spirit was woven into a lantern and she was tortured by a dead god. Lucifer sent a mixed group of people to rescue her, but eventually ended up saving her himself, and consequently destorying the whole dimension. Elaine, even in her terrible pain, reached out and saved Mona's spirit, which was also in the Mansions of Silence. Lucifer takes everyone back to his universe.

Afterwards, Lucfier offers both of them a choice: to be revived in their own bodies and old lives, or to be reborn without any memory of their previous lives. Elaine asks for some time on earth to think the matter through. After a few hours, Elaine realizes that most of the people she loves were hurt so much by her death that it would be selfish to resume her old life. She doesn't want to become someone else either, so she asks if she can become a guardian spirit in Lucifer's universe; not to be worshipped, but simply to protect everything.

Lucifer agrees. Consequently, Elaine gains powers over Lucifer's realm. This is the first point wherein she can change her appearance, making her look like she's in her mid-teens rather than twelve.

He later tasks her with removing all immortals from his universe. Elaine agrees, mostly because she knows that if she lets Lucifer do it, he'll kill all the immortals. She does it to keep the death-toll down.

After evicting most of the immortals, Elaine voices her regret that they had to hunt down innocent creatures that were simply minding their own business. In the end, she allows one immortal to survive by keeping part of its essence, to be renewed later on.

Later in the series, Elaine is invited to sit and have a meal at Destiny's garden. She meets Michael, her father, there. She attempts to talk with him, as well as to help him overcome the current problems. She also discovers that creation is rapidly being destroyed. When Michael suddenly rushes off to heaven, she follows after him.

There, she witnesses Michael's actions as he attempts to save creation. Lucifer arrives, with urgent news, and needs to disrupt Michael's work. He mentions that he was prepared to watch the whole of creation destroyed, and Elaine is shocked.

She follows Lucifer and Michael to Yggdrasil, where Fenris the Wolf is planning on making the end of creation a certainty. The journey is too difficult for them to manage; Lucifer and Michael are crippled, and Elaine is blind.

Elaine, blind and desperate, is tricked by Fenris and his followers. She feeds some of Fenris' blood to Lucifer, which causes Lucifer to become possessed, eventually killing Michael. As Michael is dying, the demiurgic power (power of God) stored within him is being released, which will certainly destroy the whole of creation. Michael informs Elaine that only she can collect the power that will explode out of him.

Desperate and panicking, Elaine attempts to absorb the demiurgic power into herself. It almost kills her, as she is barely able to control it. (This is the point in the canon I'm taking her from.)

(A brief description of future events in the series, if you don't mind mega-big spoilers.)
As both God's and Lucifer's creations continue to crumble, Elaine accidentally creates her own universe when attempting to absorb the demiurgic power. There, Lucifer trains her in controlling her new godly powers. She and Lucifer return to God's creation. There they take part in a huge battle over heaven. Elaine attempts to save God's creation by using her new demiurgic power to rebuild creation even as it collapses. (This is because earlier in the series, God left creation.) She does this reluctantly, but also without question. Although she whole-heartedly wants to save creation, she also doesn't want the responsibility of ruling over it.

The plan fails as God's throne is destroyed. Elaine is brought before God in order to discuss whether or not creation should be saved. Elaine refuses to speak, saying that they have no right to judge over countless billions of souls. God gives her a few clues, and then returns her to his creation.

Elaine opens up huge portals. She and the others use the portals in order to “drop” Lucifer's and God's creations into her own. Since her own creation was built after Fenris invaded Yggdrasil, and was not affected by God's departure, it is the only of the three creations that is not crumbling. When the other two creations are dropped into it, they are saved. Elaine consequently becomes the god of everything.

She ties up all loose ends, like her mother's grief, a rogue angel, as well as a few promises she made . When attempting to build a new type of afterlife, Lucier informs her that he cannot help. She is slightly upset that Lucifer would use her to save everything, leaving her shackled to her responsibilities. She understands, however, that there was no other choice.

Elaine has one big going-away dinner, then, afraid she may begin to abuse her powers, melds into the rest of creation in order to stop herself from doing so.

Abilites/Special Powers: Although Elaine Belloc possesses godlike powers, she is unfamiliar in their use. The only things she can properly handle at this point is changing her appearance, spirit-walking, talking to ghosts, manifesting wings, as well as combat magic. Although she is potentially omnipotent, she just can't harness that power yet. (And I promise not to abuse it.)

Third-Person Sample: She would be a lot more calm if she could see. Not that she could really be calm at all at this point, but being blind certainly didn't help.

The power was surging over her, enveloping. She had to do something to stop it, contain it. But it was hopeless, and she could feel her life sliding out of her like the tide receding. She didn't know what to do, didn't know how to think anymore. Hopeless...

And then there was wind. Fresh air. Elaine still couldn't see, but she could hear the brids singing, feel the grass beneath her knees.

She pauses, wary, disbelieving. She concentrates, trying to force the blindness away from herself. Slowly, the grounds and the Mansion in the distance become visible to her, but through different means than her eyes. Tentatively groping with her mind, like Meleos had taught her to do, she feels more than she sees.

She rises to her feet, and all at once the power contained in her, still overflowing, still barely in control, shoots out of her in a gigantic shockwave, with her at its epicenter.

“Oh shit.”

She feels the shockwave roll through the grounds, shaking the trees and rattling the windows in the distance. Frowning, she hopes that no one gets hurt by it.

Now she feels like a single twitch could send her over the edge, make her explode. She stands perfectly still. She is calm now. She can relax. She can't move, but she can “see.” She doesn't know where she is, but she's alive.

Wasn't she? The thought that she may be dead again was not appealing to her, and she huffs in frustration. Lucifer would rescue her soon, she just had to wait...

But waiting was never really her thing. She decides that she had better take things into her own hands.

Slowly feeling for the communicator, she concentrates on it. It twitches. Heartened, Elaine makes it turn to point at her, and activates the video.

First-Person Sample: Oh great. I guess I'm dead again.

But if I'm not... I won't let myself be trapped. If this is some sort of trick or some other dimension, then someone better start explaining things. And you better be quick, or you'll have to answer to my friend, Lucifer Morningstar.
