[Elaine is munching on a huge bag full of cotton candy. Behind her is is the carnival in full tilt. She talks between mouthfuls.] So, for those who haven't noticed yet, apparently there's a huge carnival on the beach. [She gestures behind her vaguely.] I have no idea how that happened. Guess it's something for the New Year.

It's pretty fun though. For those of you who aren't here yet, I really suggest you come on down.

Also, anyone I run into gets challenged to a carnival game of your choice! And yes, I'll buy you cotton candy if you win. Or maybe a snow cone. [Finishing what's left of the cotton candy.] Mm. I'd go with the former if I were you.

[Haru's wandering around the carnival enjoying himself. He's not dressed as he normally would be for the weather as he's wearing the yukata, Japan got him. Haru appears to be on fire with a pink flame all around his body. The flames are a harmless decoration.

The whore is sucking on what appears to be a very thin straw with a vial attached. The little vial has horns on it. When he sees Elaine he waves to her.]

Hey! Having fun? The games all have really fun prizes!

I noticed. There were these pair of sunglasses I got that kept changing color. It kind of made me dizzy after a while, though.

Are you up for a game?

Sure! I'm game~ Wanna try the dunk tank or duck hunting game? There's a disposable camera I wanna win at shooting game but I think I'll have a better chance at the Guess my age booth!

Do you want a devil candy? It'll set you on fire for a little~

[She raises her eyebrow and looks at the candy curiously. She's glad she can see again, although in a new way than before.] Devil candy? Huh. Sure, why not?

I think I'd like to try the duck hunting game. [As long as they're not real ducks, anyway.]

[He hands her one of the candies while walking towards the duck hunting game. It's whatever color devil candy she'd like to try. The taste is similar to having a cinnamon candy but hotter because it's a devil candy.]

Nope~ Not real ducks. I wonder where the penguins have gone in all of this. I haven't seen one since this started.

[She smells it first before taking a sip; when she does she glows orange.] Mm. It tingles a little.

[She pulls one of the pellet rifles out of its holster. She looks down the sights as though testing the way the rifle feels. With a nod of her head to the vendor operating the stand, she collects the ammo that's given to her: three pellets. Glancing at Haru over her shoulder.] So. Loser buys dessert?

Women and guns~ Or bikes...[He rolls his eyes.] Sounds good~

[Haru takes up his riffle. If he's going to shoot he'll play it by instinct. Anita has probably taught him some but he would probably embarrass her if he admitted that she had tried.

He takes his pellets and fires the three shots in a reasonably neat succession he manages to wing one duck, hit the broad side of the target on another, and the final shot narrowly misses the vendor who snatches the pellet gun from him in a hurry.]

Better than last time!

[She grins slyly as she places the gun against her shoulder. She fires about as fast as he does, to be fair.]

[There are three oddly anti-climactic sounds of pellet hitting wood. She completely missed; all her shots hit the back of the booth. The vendor grins at her in a smug sort of way.]

Ah. That was... depressing.

[She sighs as she puts the gun back into the holster and glares at the vendor, who begins to whistle innocently.] Hmm, maybe it wasn't such a good idea to put that challenge out before I played any of the games.

[Haru stares at her wondering what happened. She started off looking so good. He's immediately suspicious.]

You weren't trying to let me win were you? That's cheating too~

No, I wasn't! [She wasn't exactly doing her best either, but she doubted he was anyway.]

[And alright, so maybe she wasn't trying her best on purpose. It was purely out of the good intentions of her heart. Aheh.] Unless of course you're offering to buy me some ice cream instead, which would be completely acceptable.

Hmmmn? Why should I give something to someone who can't even admit she was holding back! At least Othello told me he was capable of maiming me. No deal! You're a cheat!

[Yes, Haru is welching on the deal because he's completely suspicious of her now.]

[She's completely caught off guard now.] H-hey! It was just a joke, you won, so I'll buy. Just... [She takes a step closer and holds out her arms as though trying to placate him.] I mean, it's New Year's, it's all just fun anyway.

Oh like I'm going to believe you now! I don't want your charity~ I thought the point was to make it a fair challenge! If you want to buy then let's settle this with a game of chance.

[Haru doesn't move away but he doesn't move any closer.]

[She really has to bite down on her tongue to stop from going "What's your problem!" She really felt he was over-reacting. Maybe she hadn't done her best, but she hadn't let him win either. And the way he said "settle this" was upsetting as well, as though he just escalated the confrontation into a fight.]

[She'd met a lot of sore losers before, but never a sore winner. It was a first.] Alright. What did you have in mind?

[Haru doesn't really notice his behavior. Wonderland is boring and frankly filled with dangerously strong individuals who Haru has to acknowledge are stronger..but it doesn't mean he's forced to accept it when they give him a break.]

It really shouldn't matter. How about you choose this one?

[Grr.] One of the dice games then. [She walks over to the booth, and smiles at the vendor. After a quick conversation, he hands her two pairs of dice, one of which she gives to Haru.] Usually whoever rolls a seven or a pair wins a prize. But just between the two of us, let's see who rolls higher, alright?

Sounds descent~

[The whore's attitude brightens considerably at something he deems 'fair'. He rolls his die and gets a 3 and a 6.]

So what's it like where you came from?

[She really has no idea what to make of this guy. One minute he's fuming and the next he's engaging her in small talk. Elaine rolls and gets a pair of twos. The vendor hands her a small penny with both sides heads. A lucky coin.] Well, you still rolled higher than me, so technically you win the bet. Did you want more devil candy or something sweeter?

It was mostly normal. Although there's this big war going on about now. I guess I get a break from all the fighting.

I like salty things better than sweet. Maybe they have corn dogs~ Actually, I won the devil candy at a different game.

There are a lot of people here that seem to have come from waring places. I guess it would be worse to come from a place where you're perfectly happy.

Okay then, corn dogs. [She glances about, looking for a stall. She hands over some coins and in return gets a pair of corn dogs, one of which she gives to Haru.] I'm probably going to gain a lot of weight by the end of this. [It wasn't a complaint, just a statement of fact, and Elaine is happily munching away on her corn dog.]

Mm. I don't like shirking my responsibilities though. I still had to do some things back home.

Everyone needs a break...Once in a while.

[Haru took a big bite out of his corn dog contentedly.]

Being anyone is tiring after awhile~ If you get fat then just exercise. It's not like you have anything better to do with your time.

Hmm. How about you? You sound like you like it here more.

Well my world could be summed down into three words. Sex, drugs, and violence.
